When I first had the idea of starting New Wave, this was it. This was the main program I wanted to run, the one that I believed would help players the most. It contains the whole ideology of New Wave Football.
It sounds simple, but it's all about learning how to play the game properly. Learning those basic fundamental skills and playing techniques that are required to play the game really well.
In Club Wave we will be learning how the game works, patterns in how games play out and the skills you need to execute different roles in a team.
A main feature will be building your game IQ. This to me is almost more valuable than any other skill. New Wave Footballers will be intelligent footballers. From what I have experienced through playing and coaching and parenting my own child, understanding the game, the rules, game patterns and just knowing how to play the game, builds that proper confidence in your playing ability.
My daughter only 2 years ago could only watch about 5 minutes of a game on tv. She had been playing for 3 years. I realised she actually didn't really know what was happening and have much understanding of the game. If she didn't understand it why would she want to watch it? If she didn't really understand it, why would she want to continue playing it?
Since learning how the game works and having better knowledge of what the roles players have in a team and how they execute them, she loves watching games and predicts where the ball is going next and dictates what the players should be doing. She understands the game and from gaining that understanding, now she loves the game. Once you have that love for the game there's no stopping your development and you can go as far as you want to in the game.
At New Wave we tell players they can play at the highest level, they can play for their country, be a Matilda, or a Socceroo. Because they can. Once they have that love for the game and truly understand it, there is nothing stopping them. New Wave creates the positive, supportive, environment to encourage learning, making mistakes without fear of consequence, and giving players a variety of tools they can use on the field, so when they are in a match, they have a range of skills to help them make their own decisions. This confidence in their knowledge and ability will accelerate their development and help them become the complete player.
